Ambikapur. Even a little carelessness can lead to death. A similar incident took place in Mainpat area of Surguja district in which the branch of the tree where the villager was resting was cut in half and the branch of the same tree broke and fell on the villager. The villager died after being crushed by a thick branch of a tree. Sundar Majhwar (50), a resident of Dholpakhana of village Parpatiya, a major tourist destination of Mainpat, had gone towards the fields in the nearby settlement Panhipakhna. Started cutting a thick branch of a big Sal tree situated next to the field. The branch of the tree was quite thick. After cutting it in half, the villager, feeling a little tired, started sitting under the same tree and taking rest.
He did not believe that a branch that had been cut more than half could break and fall. He lay down in the shade under the same tree. Meanwhile, a strong wind started blowing and the branch of the tree broke and fell on top of it. He died on the spot due to head injury. When he did not return home, his relatives reached the spot. The body of the deceased was lying near the branch of a tree. Seeing the mark of the tree being cut in half, they understood that the incident happened due to a little carelessness. By then a large number of villagers had also arrived. There are also complaints of illegal felling of trees in Mainpat area and deforestation to encroach on forest land.
