A recent incident took place at a private school in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, where the principal suspended a Muslim nursery student for allegedly bringing non-vegetarian food in his lunch box. The matter caught people’s attention after a video recorded by the student’s mother went viral on social media. The video shows a heated exchange between the principal and the child’s mother over the issue. The principal confronted the mother, saying, “We don’t want to teach such morals to children who will break our temples and bring non-vegetarian food to school.”
She further said that the child was promoting non-vegetarianism and claimed that the child was talking about “feeding non-vegetarian food to everyone and converting them to Islam.” The mother vehemently denied the principal’s allegations and pointed out the unlikelihood of her 7-year-old son making such statements. He said, “How can such a young child say such things? We live in an area where people of all religions live. He (the child) can never say such things.” In response, the principal remarked that children learn these behaviours from their homes, implying that the parents had influenced the boy’s mindset.
The principal also said that the child’s name had been removed from the school register, citing complaints from parents of other students. “Parents of other students had problems,” he said, justifying the suspension. During the confrontation, the mother raised another concern, accusing a fellow student of repeatedly bullying and harassing her son. However, the principal dismissed her claims, saying she was trying to “mislead” the school by shifting the blame to another student. When the video circulated online, the Amroha police responded, stating that the District School Inspector (DIS) had intervened. A three-member enquiry committee was immediately constituted to investigate the incident and determine appropriate action.
