Tiruvallur-Sriperumbudur six lane road expansion project: Request for replanting of trees

Tamil Nadu : As trees are being felled for the expansion of the 30.10 km long six-lane road from Tiruvallur bypass to Sriperumbudur, community activists have demanded that well-grown saplings be replanted.
The Chennai Border Road Project is being implemented at a cost of Rs 2,689 crore. Its main objective is to reduce traffic congestion of heavy vehicles going to Ennore Port from northern and southern districts of Tamil Nadu and to facilitate easy access to Ennore and Kattupalli ports for heavy vehicles going to Ennore Port from Chennai and its surrounding districts, vehicles coming from northern and southern parts of the state and neighbouring states.
This road is planned to be constructed from Ennore Port to Mamallapuram in a length of 132.87 km. As per Section-3, in the work to be done from Tiruvallur Bypass to Sriperumbudur, 10.4 km work from Tiruvallur Bypass to Venkathur is to be done at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore. 10 km work is to be done from Venkattur to Sengadu at a cost of Rs 1133.20 crore and 9.70 km work is to be done from Sengadu to Sriperumbudur at a cost of Rs 593.27 crore, thus a total of 30.10 km work is to be done. Elevated Flyover-2, Railway Flyover-1, Big Bridge-2 are to be constructed. Chennai Border Road Project Section-1 is being implemented starting from Ennuar Port to Thakurdwara for a distance of 25.40 km. Contracts worth Rs 2,122.10 crore have been signed for this work and 35 percent work has been completed so far. In Section-2, construction work has been executed through 2 operating companies at a cost of Rs 1,539.69 crore and 68 percent work has been completed so far.
