Three saw mills, one plastic furniture unit gutted in massive fire in Srinagar

Srinagar: Three saw mills and a plastic furniture unit were gutted in a major fire on the outskirts of Srinagar early Friday morning. There was no loss of life or injury during the fire fighting operation. Fire and emergency services officials said the fire incident occurred in HMT Zainkot area and the cause of the fire is being ascertained.
He said sawmills and a plastic furniture unit suffered heavy damage in the fire incident. He said that as soon as information about the incident was received at around 5.05 in the morning, fire tenders were sent to the spot. However, by then the fire had engulfed a large part of these units. “By the time we were informed, the fire had spread to the units, causing extensive damage to property,” the fire and emergency services said.
“The units have suffered more than 60 per cent damage in the fire incident,” he said, adding that 12 fire tenders from different centers of the city were sent to the spot to douse the flames. In another incident of fire, a residential house in Osmania Colony Buchpora in Srinagar city was also damaged, causing damage to the attic and upper floor of the house, he said.
