Tamil Nadu: Amidst discussions in the capital about possible changes in the Union Cabinet and at the administrative level, speculation has intensified in political circles that some states’ governors may be reshuffled. Amid these discussions, Kerala and Tamil Nadu Governor R.V. Arlekar met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his office in Delhi on Wednesday. The meeting lasted approximately 30 minutes.
According to sources, this meeting is being seen as an important signal regarding administrative and constitutional arrangements. Although no official details have been shared about the meeting, it is believed that issues related to the role of governors and their deployment were discussed.
Kerala Governor R.V. Arlekar was appointed Governor of Tamil Nadu by the President during the reshuffle of governors last March. Following the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, a new government led by Joseph Vijay took office. Following the political transition, the state’s administrative structure is under review at various levels regarding coordination and functioning.
Sources say that the central government is currently working to make administrative functions in the states more effective and streamlined. As part of this effort, the idea has been mooted to replace “caretaker governors” with full-time governors in some states, bringing speed and clarity to administrative decisions.
It is being reported that as part of this plan, governors who are responsible for two states could be relieved of their responsibilities for one of them. The name of R.V. Arlekar, who currently serves as governor of two states, is also being discussed in this regard.
According to sources in the Home Ministry, issues such as the appointment of governors, administrative balance, and the need for better coordination among the states were discussed at the meeting held on Wednesday. However, no final decision has been confirmed.
This meeting has sparked a variety of discussions in political circles. Some analysts believe this is part of the central government’s routine administrative review process, while others are interpreting it as a sign of a potential major administrative reshuffle.
According to sources, the central government’s current focus is on strengthening and strengthening the administrative system in the states. Consequently, the role and scope of the governors are also being reviewed. It is expected that necessary steps will be taken to simplify and expedite the administrative system.
At present, no official statement has been issued by either the Home Ministry or the Rashtrapati Bhavan on this matter. However, discussions about this meeting are ongoing in political and administrative circles.
If any administrative decisions are made in the coming days, changes may be seen in the list of governors. However, it is not yet clear whether this is merely a routine review process or preparations for a major reshuffle.
All eyes are fixed on this entire development, and discussions are continuing in political circles.
