Odisha government aims to provide piped drinking water to all villages by March 2027

Odisha: The Odisha government has reiterated its goal of providing piped drinking water to all villages in the state by March 2027. Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Naik stated that all necessary steps are being taken at a rapid pace to achieve this goal.

The minister made this announcement while addressing the media after a detailed review meeting held at the Public Service Building on Thursday. The meeting reviewed the progress and current status of ongoing drinking water supply schemes in the state.

He stated that a total of 207 Mega Piped Water Supply Projects are being implemented in the state. Of these, 33 projects have been completed so far, ensuring piped drinking water supply to 2,402 villages in the state.

The minister stated that the completion of these projects has significantly improved the availability of clean drinking water in rural areas. The government aims to complete the remaining projects within the stipulated timeframe to ensure safe drinking water is available in every village.

He also informed that 14 more projects are expected to be completed by the end of this month. These projects will connect thousands of more villages with drinking water. The government believes this will improve health and living standards in rural areas.

During the meeting, officials also provided information on the progress of the projects, technical challenges, and problems faced on the ground. The Minister directed that all projects be completed on time and any delays be taken seriously.

The government states that this scheme is an important step towards alleviating the water crisis in rural areas. The importance of these projects is especially heightened given the water crisis during the summer season.

Rabi Narayan Naik stated that the government’s objective is not merely to launch projects, but to ensure regular and clean drinking water reaches every household. He also urged officials to increase field-level monitoring and ensure adherence to quality standards.

The completion of this ambitious scheme is expected to transform the drinking water supply landscape in rural Odisha, directly benefiting millions of people.
