Odisha: College girl student jumps into Mahanadi River with an aim to end life, get critically injured

Boudh: A college girl student reportedly sustained critical injuries after jumping into Mahanadi river from the 70 foot Kiakata bridge in Odisha’s Boud district this afternoon. The injured student has been identified as a 3rd year student of Model Degree College in Bamanda and is a native of to Helei village under Kiakata police station limits. According to information, the student, as per her daily routine, was returning home from the college today through the Kiakata bridge over the Mahanadi river. However, she stopped after reaching the bridge, kept her bicycle, bag and sandals on it and jumped into the river before anyone could notice and rescue her. Some youths who were bathing at the ghat behind Boudh Irrigation Colony rescued her after seeing her being washed away by the river water and brought her to the bank of the river. Immediately, a team of local firefighters rushed to the spot after getting information and admitted her to the Boudh District Headquarter Hospital for treatment. The student reportedly fractured her waist following the incident, sources informed. Meanwhile, the Boudh Model Police started an investigation by seizing the student’s bicycle, bag and sandals, which were abandoned on the bridge. While the exact reason what prompted her to jump into the river is yet to be known, it is suspected that she attempted to commit suicide some personal issues.
