Nizamabad: 43 thefts took place in trains and stations in Nizamabad district

Nizamabad: There has been a spurt in the number of thefts in trains and railway premises at stations falling under Nizamabad district. Around 43 theft cases were registered at various stations in the district in the last six months and 8 cases were solved. According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), 90 cases were registered in the district in 2023 and 18 cases were solved. Railway police said that since Nizamabad district shares its border with Maharashtra, most of the thefts are taking place in these areas. Officials claimed that people from bordering Maharashtra are involved in incidents of theft in trains passing through the border. Gangs from border villages are fleeing to border areas after stealing valuables, mobile phones and electronic gadgets in trains and stations.

The railway police have arrested several people involved in thefts in trains and railway stations in the last few months. They have recovered valuables, jewellery, laptops, mobile phones and tabs from the people who committed the thefts. Railway police have asked people to contact helpline number 139 in case of theft of luggage and valuables. As per rules, policing on railways is a state subject. Prevention of crime, registration of cases, their investigation and maintenance of law and order on railway premises and in running trains is the statutory responsibility of the state governments, which they discharge through the Government Railway Police and district police. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) assists the efforts of the Government Railway Police (GRP) in providing better security to passengers and passenger areas.
