NCERT changes Class 8 syllabus committee

New Delhi: NCERT has reshuffled its curriculum committee following the Supreme Court’s criticism of the section on the judiciary in the Class 8 Social Science textbook. The panel now comprises 20 members, with three removed in compliance with the court’s directives and to enhance the committee’s efficiency.
The Supreme Court had questioned some of the content related to the judiciary and the judiciary in the Class 8 Social Science textbook. The court clarified that NCERT should present facts and judicial processes in a balanced and accurate manner in the curriculum. In response, NCERT decided to reconstitute the committee.
The panel now includes education experts, sociologists, historians, and curriculum designers. According to NCERT officials, this step was taken to ensure the quality of the curriculum and a balanced understanding of the judiciary.
An NCERT spokesperson stated that the purpose of the reshuffle is to ensure that students receive a factual and balanced perspective in their social science education. They stated that new experts with experience in the fields of judiciary and social studies have been included in place of the removed members.
Experts believe that this initiative by NCERT will enhance the quality and transparency of the curriculum. Children will gain accurate knowledge of the judiciary and democratic processes and help them develop a balanced perspective in social science.
Following the changes, NCERT clarified that the curriculum will not include any political or biased content. Its sole aim is to ensure factual and balanced education.
The panel members stated that they will modify the curriculum in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directives and work to provide students with a modern and factual education. They also stated that the new committee will focus on maintaining high standards for education and ensuring the relevance of the curriculum.
Educationalists have praised NCERT’s move, stating that this change will help increase children’s understanding and awareness of democracy, judiciary, and social sciences. He also said that providing balanced approach and factual information in the curriculum will also develop logical and critical thinking skills of the students.
