Tamil Nadu: International delegation arrives in Chennai to observe elections

Tamil Nadu: An international delegation, which arrived in Chennai to observe the Tamil Nadu elections, witnessed firsthand the delivery of electronic voting machines and other equipment to polling stations.

Voting for Tamil Nadu’s 234 assembly constituencies will begin on Thursday (April 23) from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Electronic voting machines and equipment were delivered to all 4,085 polling stations set up in Chennai on Wednesday.

Voting machines for the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni assembly constituency were transported in vehicles from the security room of the NKD National Girls Higher Secondary School, Dr. Besant Road. This was witnessed by an international team of election observers.

The group includes 23 representatives from Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Maldives, Egypt, Bhutan, Peru, Ghana, Namibia, Benin, and Mauritius. Representatives from the respective countries’ Election Monitoring Committees, Election Commissions, Election Departments, Legal Departments, and Project Officers are also included.

State Joint Chief Electoral Officer Sruthanjay Narayanan and Chennai District Additional Electoral Officer Kataravi Teja briefed the group on election arrangements in Tamil Nadu and the ongoing process as per Election Commission regulations. Officials said a team of international observers will physically inspect polling stations in Chennai on Thursday (April 23), including in Koyambedu.
