Navy seizes 3,300 KG drugs from boat in the sea

New Delhi: The Indian Navy has seized one of the largest consignments of drugs from a sailing yacht during a special operation. The Indian Navy, in coordination with the Narcotics Control Bureau, intercepted a suspicious sailing vessel (dhow) carrying about 3,300 kg of contraband at sea, officials said on Wednesday. It contained 3,089 kg of hashish, 158 kg of methamphetamine and 25 kg of morphine – the largest consignment in terms of quantity seized in recent times.
Based on inputs from the P8I aircraft on surveillance mission, the ship deployed on the mission was diverted to intercept the Dow suspected to be engaged in smuggling. The captured boat and crew along with the contraband were handed over to law enforcement agencies at the Indian port. “The coordinated response of the Indian Navy with law enforcement agencies reflects our firm stand against drug trafficking in the country’s maritime neighbourhood,” the official said. The Indian Navy has also deployed special forces in response to the ongoing maritime security situation in the Gulf of Aden and Arabian Sea. Officials said the Navy deployed special forces by paradropping from C-130 aircraft into the Arabian Sea to continue anti-piracy operations in the region.
