Mumbai: Man Injured After Slab Collapse; Case Registered Against Office Bearers of Bhandup Station Plaza Society

Maharashtra: The Bhandup Police have registered a case against the Chairman and office-bearers of Station Plaza Society, located in Bhandup West. This action was taken after a slab from the building collapsed; it is alleged that the incident occurred due to negligence regarding long-pending structural repair works, despite repeated complaints from residents.
One Person Injured, Car Damaged in Incident
According to the police, the incident took place on March 10 at approximately 3:30 PM in ‘C Wing’ of Station Plaza Society, situated on Station Road in Bhandup West. In this accident, Rajesh Pandurang Tawde sustained injuries, while Sunita Vinod Sharma’s car was damaged when concrete debris fell upon it.
The case has been registered based on a complaint filed by 55-year-old Shailesh Navinchandra Shah, the owner of ‘Bagicha Hotel,’ located in the society’s ‘B Wing.’ The police have booked the society’s Chairman and office-bearers under relevant sections of the ‘Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’ (BNS) Act.
Residents Had Repeatedly Demanded Repairs
According to the FIR, all three wings of Station Plaza—A, B, and C—are in an extremely dilapidated condition. Since the beginning of 2024, residents had repeatedly requested the society’s management to undertake structural repair works.
However, the office-bearers allegedly ignored these requests and delayed the work. They argued that the cost of the repair work would range between ₹4 crore and ₹5 crore; residents contend that this was merely a pretext to avoid taking action.
Due to the management’s inaction, the society members approached the ‘Co-operative Court’ located in Churchgate. Prior to this, on July 11, 2024, the ‘Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’ (BMC) had issued a ‘C1 category’ notice to all members of the society. The residents objected to this notice and commissioned another structural audit through ‘Nev Engineering Consultant’. This audit classified the building under the ‘C2B category,’ implying that instead of being demolished, the structure merely required structural repairs.
