Marathi language should be used in Mahabank, why did MNS make this demand?

Maharashtra: Navnirman Sena (MNS) has demanded that essential services be made available in Marathi in Bank of Maharashtra branches and application forms should be printed in Marathi and bank employees should use Marathi while communicating with account holders. A delegation led by MNS state general secretary Hemant Sambhus met General Manager K. Rajesh Kumar at the bank’s headquarters. A statement of these demands was given in it. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has been aggressive on the Marathi issue many times in the past as well. Earlier too, MNS had agitated demanding Marathi boards in shops and had resorted to violence many times.

MNS, which had calmed down to some extent after the results of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, is now again taking an aggressive stand on the Marathi issue. The Reserve Bank of India has issued a circular to all banks asking them to make arrangements to provide application forms in Marathi language. However, it has been observed that Marathi language is still not being used in many branches of Bank of Maharashtra. It is necessary to provide printed copies of the required documents in Marathi language for the use of account holders. Sambhu alleged that these documents are not being provided. It has been found that the branch managers of most of the bank branches are Amhara people. Many Marathi employees are deprived of the post of branch manager despite their capability. Therefore, there is a demand to appoint Marathi employees as branch managers of banks, Sambhu said.
