Tamil Nadu: The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued an important weather forecast for Tamil Nadu from Sunday (July 5) to July 10. According to the department, light to moderate rain is expected at isolated places in some parts of the state during this period. Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are also expected along with the rain.
In a press release issued by the Meteorological Department on Saturday, it was stated that this weather change is being observed due to the influence of a low-pressure area extending from South Gujarat to Karnataka. Due to this system, intermittent rain may occur at various locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal between July 5 and July 10. However, the rain will not be uniformly distributed across all areas, but will be more pronounced in a few locations.
The department also clarified that the rain during this period will primarily be accompanied by thunderstorms, with strong winds possible in some locations. According to weather experts, this situation reflects monsoon activity, where the formation of a local low pressure area temporarily increases rainfall.
Meanwhile, many parts of Tamil Nadu have received good rainfall during the past 24 hours. The highest rainfall was recorded in the Avalanche region of the Nilgiris district, where 190 mm of rain was recorded. It was among the wettest places in the state.
Chinnakallur in Coimbatore district also recorded 140 mm of rain. The Upper Bhavani region of the Nilgiris district recorded 90 mm of rain. Similarly, Neyyur in Kanyakumari district also recorded 90 mm of rain, leading to localized waterlogging.
The Upasi region of Coimbatore district received 70 mm of rain, while areas like Cinchona and Solaiyur recorded 60 mm of rain. The Emerald region of the Nilgiris district also recorded 50 mm of rain. The Valparai and Siruvani Adivaram areas of Coimbatore also recorded up to 50 mm of rainfall, making the weather pleasant in the hilly and rural areas.
The Meteorological Department has stated that while such rainfall will bring down temperatures, it may also lead to waterlogging in some low-lying areas. Caution has been advised, especially in hilly areas and along riverbanks.
According to experts, such weather conditions are common during the monsoon season in South India. However, when low-pressure areas are active, changes in the intensity and distribution of rainfall are observed. This is why some districts receive heavy rainfall, while others experience light rain or dry weather.
The Meteorological Department has also advised local administrations to remain vigilant and make necessary preparations. Citizens have been urged to monitor weather updates and stay safe during heavy rain or thunderstorms.
This change in Tamil Nadu’s weather is expected to continue for the next few days, and the department is closely monitoring the situation. Some stability in weather conditions is expected after July 10th, although further updates will be released periodically.
