Labourer turned thief when he did not get work, arrested with the help of CCTV footage

In the case of vandalism and attempted theft in the ATM of Bank of India located near Mopka Naya Talab in Sarkanda area, outpost in-charge SI Ramnaresh Yadav said that Santosh Mishra had complained about vandalism in the ATM of Bank of India on 23 November. On this, the police registered a case and started investigation. During this, CCTV footage of the surrounding area was searched, which identified the accused as Sanjay Dhruv (25), resident of Bilha Navagaon. Police took him into custody and interrogated him. At first he was giving evasive answers.

When brought to the police station and interrogated strictly, the accused told that he had come to the city from the village to work as a labourer. He was looking for work by staying with his nephew in Mopka. Due to not getting work, he was collecting junk and making a living. During this time he planned to rob the ATM. He did recce around the ATM for two nights. After this he brought an axe from home.

He could not succeed in withdrawing money by vandalism. The clothes by which he was identified had burnt him before going home. Mopka outpost in-charge said that the accused’s clothes were identified from the CCTV footage. During interrogation, it was found that the accused used to wear his nephew’s jacket.

He had entered the ATM wearing the same. When police took him into custody and interrogated him, he told that he had burnt the jacket before going home. Besides this, he had also gone to a junk dealer in the morning to ask for money. On not getting the money, he went to the village on foot.
