Himachal: Elderly man injured in fight between stray bulls
Himachal Pradesh: Despite the persistent concerns of residents, the problem of stray cattle roaming freely on roads and public areas remains unresolved. With no decisive action from the state government, people are facing hardships as these animals continue to pose a threat to children, women and the elderly. In a tragic incident on Friday, Bishan Das, an elderly resident of Nandpur village in Haripur tehsil of Kangra district, was caught in a fight between stray bulls on the road and was severely injured. With no family to take care of him, young volunteers from the village rushed him to an orthopedic clinic in Sunehat. Realising the gravity of the situation, financial aid started pouring in for his treatment and post-procedure care. The youth have taken the responsibility of assisting him during his recovery.
On receiving information about the incident, Dehra subdivisional magistrate Shilpi Bekta directed the hospital to provide the necessary medical care and provide financial aid to the victim. Despite several announcements and initiatives, the ground reality remains unchanged. Stray animals, especially bulls and dogs, are constantly causing injuries and accidents, leaving residents in constant fear. Sanjeev Sandhu and Shubham Mehra, who are actively supporting Bishan Das, expressed their gratitude to the civic administration and people who came forward to help. However, they stressed that such incidents keep happening frequently, in which people fall prey to bull fights and dog bites. The menace of stray animals is also wreaking havoc on agriculture, causing huge financial losses to farmers. Stray and abandoned animals as well as inadequate shelter facilities have further aggravated the problem. Though some organisations are contributing through sterilisation programmes, animal shelters and awareness drives, these efforts are not enough. Now, residents are demanding immediate and concrete action from the authorities to effectively address the issue. Unless a long-term solution is implemented, the safety and well-being of people will remain at risk.
