Himachal: 93 Candidates in the Fray for 45 Seats in Tibetan Parliamentary Elections

Himachal Pradesh: The Election Commission of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) announced on Wednesday the candidates selected for the upcoming elections of the 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile. During a press conference held here, the Commission stated that the names and brief biographies of all selected candidates would be made available on the Commission’s official website. Voters have been encouraged to review the candidates’ details to gain a better understanding of them before casting their votes. The election campaign period for the candidates will conclude on April 23.
A total of 93 candidates are in the fray for these elections, from among whom 45 members will be elected to the Parliament. The preliminary phase of voting was held on February 1 across 27 countries, while the final phase of the elections is scheduled for April 26. According to officials, a total of 91,042 voters have registered for the elections, comprising 56,749 voters from India, Nepal, and Bhutan, and 34,293 from abroad. The Election Commissioner urged all eligible Tibetans to actively participate in the electoral process, and specifically appealed to the youthâincluding college studentsâto exercise their democratic rights.
