Govt employee found hanging in friend’s house in capital city, financial dispute behind act

THIRUVANANTHAURAM: A 43-year-old government employee was found hanging at his friend’s house. The youth has been identified as Shaji, local fund auditor of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and a native of Vellarada. He was found hanging in the house near Anappara in Vellarada. The police hinted that the reason for the suicide was a financial dispute with his friend.

Shaji was missing since Monday evening. He went missing after dropping his wife, a teacher in a higher secondary school, to work in the morning. The two usually return home together after work. However, when his wife called him last evening, his phone was switched off. The relatives filed a complaint with the police after he failed to respond to their calls.The police in an investigation conducted found his car abandoned near Anappara R C Church. The investigation based on the location of his mobile phone found that Shaji had last reached the area. With this, the police intensified investigation in the area. Shaji’s body was found hanging on the second floor of his friend’s house this morning.
The police received information that there was a dispute between Shaji and his friend on the day he committed suicide. Reports said Shaji stood surety for his friend in several banks to get the chitty money. However, his friend failed to repay the money. With this, notices were issued to Shaji from the banks. Police believe that this may have led him to take the drastic step.The house owner told police that nobody was at home at the time of the incident. The police have started a detailed investigation.
