Dispute over voter list revision in Andhra

Andhra Pradesh: A political controversy has erupted regarding the implementation of the Special Summary Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Alleging various problems, irregularities, and practical difficulties in the process, the YSRCP has demanded immediate intervention from the Election Commission.

The party has written a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) expressing serious concern over the issue. YSRCP MLC and State General Secretary L. Appireddy stated in the letter that obstacles are arising at multiple levels during the SIR process, impacting the voter list revision work.

The letter highlights that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are facing various difficulties in discharging their duties. Additionally, a lack of awareness among voters has emerged as a major issue, preventing many from actively participating in the process.

The YSRCP has alleged that these problems are hindering the voter list revision work from proceeding in a smooth and transparent manner. The party asserts that if corrective measures are not taken in time, it could compromise the fairness and credibility of the entire process.

In his letter, L. Appireddy stated that he is respectfully bringing this matter to the CEO’s attention so that the serious issues plaguing the ongoing SIR process in Andhra Pradesh can be addressed immediately. He emphasized the urgent need for measures to ensure the voter list revision remains free, fair, and transparent.

The party has urged the Election Commission to review the matter and take immediate action to resolve the problems being faced at the grassroots level. It has also called for special campaigns to streamline the work of BLOs and raise awareness among voters.

Political analysts believe that processes like voter list revision form the foundation of a democratic system, and any negligence or irregularity therein can raise serious questions. In this context, the YSRCP’s complaint regarding this matter is considered significant in the prevailing electoral climate. So far, there has been no official response from the Election Commission regarding this letter. However, the party has expressed hope that the Commission will soon take the necessary steps to normalize the situation and proceed with the SIR process in a transparent manner.

Overall, the questions raised regarding the SIR process in Andhra Pradesh highlight the need to focus on the administrative machinery and election preparations.
