Chennai Meteorological Department: Possibility of rain and thundershowers in many districts of Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai Meteorological Department has forecast a change in weather across several parts of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday (June 24) and Thursday (June 25). According to the department, moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at isolated places in districts along the Western Ghats, parts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Additionally, warnings have been issued regarding lightning and strong winds—potentially reaching speeds of around 40 kmph—in several areas.

The Meteorological Department stated that an atmospheric circulation system persists over Lakshadweep and adjacent sea areas. This system is influencing the weather across the region, with increased moisture levels creating conditions favorable for cloud formation. Consequently, intermittent rainfall is expected in various parts of Tamil Nadu.

Cloudy skies are expected over Chennai city and Puducherry on Wednesday. Light rain and thunderstorms may occur in some parts of the city. While the likelihood of continuous heavy rainfall remains low for now, sudden weather changes are possible.

Regarding temperatures, a maximum of approximately 101.66°F was recorded in Chennai and Cuddalore. Temperatures reached around 100.04°F in Parangipettai and Nagapattinam, while Puducherry recorded approximately 100.94°F. This indicates that, despite the rainfall, heat conditions persist in several areas.

Rainfall data from the past 24 hours shows heavy precipitation in certain regions. By 8:30 AM on Tuesday, the highest rainfall—170 mm—was recorded in Uthukottai, Tiruvallur district. Additionally, 80 mm of rainfall was recorded in the Thoravai Kandigai area of Tiruvallur. Rainfall of 60 millimeters was recorded in Perungallur, Pudukkottai district, indicating that the downpour was quite intense in some areas.

The Meteorological Department states that these weather conditions are likely to persist for the next 24 to 48 hours. Cloudy skies and intermittent rain are expected in several areas, with the impact likely to be more pronounced in hilly and coastal regions.

People have been advised to remain vigilant due to the possibility of strong winds and lightning strikes. They are urged to avoid open areas and to stay in safe locations during the rain. Fishermen have also been advised to exercise caution at sea, as rising wind speeds could lead to turbulent conditions.

The Chennai Meteorological Department has stated that the weather situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be issued as necessary. Local authorities have also been placed on alert to ensure immediate action in the event of any emergency.

Overall, weather patterns across several parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to shift this week. Conditions will range from light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Residents are advised to exercise caution in light of these changing weather conditions.
