Chennai High Court closes case on security plea

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai High Court, hearing a security petition filed by Thaveka candidate Sinora Ashok, has ordered the case to be closed. The court made this decision after noting the police department’s statement that the petitioner was already being provided security.
According to the information, Sinora Ashok had stated in the petition filed in the Chennai High Court that she contested the assembly elections on behalf of Thaveka from the Port constituency. She alleged that on the day of voting on April 23, DMK candidate and Minister Sekar Babu and DMK workers attacked her and her party workers. The petition also claimed that she received death threats during this period.
The petitioner had requested the court to provide police protection to her and her family in view of the potential violence during the vote counting on May 4. She stated that a tense situation could arise on the day of the election results, making security extremely necessary.
The matter came up for hearing before Justice M. Nirmal Kumar on Thursday. During the hearing, the police department informed the court that security was already being provided to Sinora Ashok and that his security arrangements were ongoing.
Taking this statement from the police into account, the court held that the main demand raised in the petition had already been met. Based on this, the High Court ordered the closure of the petition regarding the security demand.
Following this decision, the court will not hear the case further. However, the court also indicated that the police must remain vigilant to deal with any untoward situation and that it is essential to ensure the safety of all candidates.
This case brings to the fore issues related to political tensions and security arrangements during the election season. The court clarified that if any party has any new complaints in the future, they can file a fresh petition at the appropriate forum in accordance with the law.
The Madras High Court played a crucial role in this entire matter, taking into account the security arrangements and the election situation, and making a prompt decision.
