CCI procures 29.50 lakh bales of cotton worth Rs 11,800 crore in Telangana

Hyderabad: The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) procured approximately 45.1 million quintals of cotton, equivalent to 9 million bales, under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) operation. Of this, 14.8 million quintals, equivalent to 29.5 million bales, worth ₹11,800 crore, were procured in Telangana, according to the Ministry of Textiles. This was done through direct transactions with 8.60 lakh farmers during the 2025-26 cotton season.

Of the 14.8 million quintals of cotton procured in Telangana, 5.80 lakh quintals, valued at ₹463 crore, were procured in Mancherial district, and 1.21 lakh quintals, valued at ₹97 crore, were procured as seed cotton in Peddapalli district.

During the 2025-26 cotton season, CCI opened more procurement centers based on the prescribed eligibility criteria. Three procurement centers were opened in Mancherial and Peddapalli districts, assessing parameters such as cotton cultivation on at least 3,000 hectares of land, the presence of a functioning APMC, and at least one ginning and pressing factory.

The CCI’s opening of procurement centers is based on these objective criteria and operational requirements to ensure effective MSP operations.

The CCI, in collaboration with the Ministry of Textiles, formulated rules for opening procurement centers to enhance MSP outreach. These rules aimed to ensure that cotton farmers in every taluka or mandal with at least 3,000 hectares of cotton cultivation, a functioning APMC, and at least one ginning or pressing factory can avail of the MSP benefits, while also reducing transportation distances and waiting times for farmers.

According to this, during the cotton season 2025-26, 122 procurement centres were opened in 30 districts of Telangana under the jurisdiction of three CCI branches – Adilabad, Warangal and Mahabubnagar – while 110 centres were opened during 2024-25. This included three procurement centres in Luxettipet, Chennur and Bellampalli in Mancherial district and three in Peddapalli, Sultanabad and Kamanpur in Peddapalli district.

Minister of State for Textiles Pavithra Margherita said this two days ago in the Lok Sabha while responding to a question raised by MP Vamsi Krishna Gaddam on cotton farmers in Telangana.
