Odisha Odisha: There was a stir in Kendrapara district on Monday after the dead body of a person was found in the Collectorate office premises. The incident came to light around noon, when people present in the office saw a man hanging from the railing of the stairs and immediately informed the administration.
The deceased has been identified as Srichandan Das, a resident of Raitunidi village of Derabish block of Kendrapara district. He was currently living in a rented house in Basulei area of Kendrapara city.
As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot and took possession of the body and sent it for postmortem. With this, the police has started investigating the matter. Based on preliminary investigation, police said that the person committed suicide by hanging himself from the railing of the stairs of the Collector’s office with the help of a cotton towel.
According to police officials, all aspects of the incident are being investigated and efforts are being made to find out the circumstances under which the person took this step. The evidence found from the spot and surrounding CCTV footage are also being examined.
Meanwhile, information has come to light quoting sources that Srichandan Das was under mental stress for a long time regarding matters related to his real estate. It is being told that he had gone to the Sub-Collector’s office several times to resolve these matters and was trying to resolve his disputes.
Local people say that Das was very worried about his family and property disputes. However, the police have so far refused to reach any conclusion and said that the real reasons will be known only after the investigation is completed.
After the incident, security arrangements have also been increased in the Collectorate office premises. The administration has said that the entire matter is being investigated seriously and all possible aspects are being taken into consideration.
The police have informed the relatives of the deceased and the postmortem report is awaited. Further action and situation will become clear only after the report comes.
Since this incident took place in a government office complex, it has become a matter of concern at the administrative level also. Officials have said that further strengthening of security arrangements and surveillance in offices will be considered.
At present the police have registered the case as suicide and are investigating all aspects.
