Assam Rifles Open Volleyball Championship concludes in Komlakhong, Manipur

Manipur: The Assam Rifles Open Volleyball Championship 2026 concluded in Komlakhong, Manipur, sending a strong message of social harmony and empowering youth.
Held on the banks of the beautiful Loktak Lake, the tournament was organized under Operation Goodwill, with the ultimate goal of promoting unity and restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
The championship aimed to use sports as a bridge to bring together different ethnic communities, including the Meitei and Pangal groups, on a common platform. A total of 12 teams from Imphal West and Kakching districts participated in the event.
The initiative aimed to bridge communal barriers and foster mutual trust through competitive sportsmanship in a state facing significant security challenges. The event also focused on talent identification and grassroots development, providing young athletes from remote and border villages with a structured and professional platform to showcase their skills and gain exposure beyond local competitions.
The final match was played between Team BYDA and the ADC A team. In a closely contested match, the ADC A team emerged victorious.
The championship also aimed to strengthen civil-military relations by serving as a people-centric outreach program. By engaging with the local community in a non-combat and festive atmosphere, the Assam Rifles, known as the “Sentinels of the Northeast,” sought to bridge the communication gap and build lasting goodwill between the security forces and the public.
Officials stated that the tournament was designed to keep youth away from negative influences such as drug abuse and falling prey to extremism, by promoting discipline, physical fitness, and positive engagement through sports.
