Arunachal: Robin Hibu appointed as Professor of Practice at SCCZ

ZIRO: The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the appointment of IPS officer Robin Hibu as professor of practice in the social work department of Saint Claret College, Ziro (SCCZ) in Lower Subansiri district, the college said in a release.

The approval was conveyed through an official communication issued by the ministry on 20 May, following a proposal submitted through the Delhi Police, it said.

Hibu is currently serving as director general of police, Delhi.

A distinguished police officer, social reformer, and humanitarian, Hibu has earned national recognition for his exemplary public service and community engagement.

He is the first IPS officer from Arunachal Pradesh,and has held several important positions, including that of superintendent of police, deputy commissioner of police, inspector general of police, special commissioner of police, and chief security officer for the president of India.

He has also served in United Nations peace missions in Bosnia and Kosovo, and has received several prestigious honours, including the UN Peace Medals, President’s Police Medals, Gold Medal of Arunachal Pradesh for outstanding services, and the Ati-Utkrisht Seva Padak from the Government of India.

Beyond his policing career, Hibu is widely known for founding Helping Hands, an NGO committed to supporting people from the Northeast living across India through emergency assistance, legal aid, educational support, healthcare initiatives, and welfare services.

His social works have earned widespread appreciation for their social impact and compassionate outreach.

“The appointment of Hibu as professor of practice is expected to enrich the academic environment of Saint Claret College, Ziro by providing students, particularly of the department of social work, with direct exposure to practical knowledge, leadership experience, public administration, and community service,” the release said.

It further stated that his engagement with the institution would help bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional practice, especially in the areas of governance, ethics, leadership, public communication, and social responsibility.

The college expressed hope that his association would further strengthen the institution’s mission of nurturing socially responsive, professionally skilled, and ethically grounded graduates.

The college formally inducted Hibu as professor of practice by handing over the appointment order to his mother Hibu Yasing.

The ceremony was attended by the staff of the college, and members of Helping Hands and Mahatma Gandhi Centre, Ziro. Hibu also attended the ceremony online, accompanied by his wife.
