181 youth quit alcohol, excited about the start of a new life

Baloda Bazar. The district administration’s initiatives toward a drug-free society are consistently yielding positive results. In particular, the de-addiction center operating in the district has emerged as a new ray of hope for many youth and families. Under the guidance of Collector Deepak Soni, continuous work is underway to strengthen de-addiction and mental health services. Since the establishment of the de-addiction center under the Nayi Disha Abhiyan, 181 people have been completely freed from addiction. 16 individuals are currently undergoing treatment.

The district administration launched the Nayi Disha Abhiyan last year with the aim of making the district completely drug-free and providing treatment to drug addicts under the supervision of psychiatrists in a safe and controlled environment.

Drug De-addiction Center Run by Sangi Mitan Seva Sansthan –

The de-addiction center in the district has been operated by Sangi Mitan Seva Sansthan, a recognized and funded organization by the Social Welfare Department, since July 2024. The de-addiction center is located on Khairghata Road, Baloda Bazar-Bhatapara. While 192 beneficiaries have been registered so far, 181 individuals have been completely freed from addiction since its inception. 16 individuals are currently undergoing treatment. Second De-addiction Center Inaugurated in Bhatapara – Expanding de-addiction services in the district, the district’s second de-addiction center was briefly inaugurated on Wednesday at Maharani Chowk in Bhatapara. This center has a capacity for 15 youth, and currently 10 are undergoing treatment there. The center’s key features include physical and mental treatment under the supervision of specialist psychiatrists, medical assessment, detoxification, and counseling, nutritious meals, yoga, recreational and sports activities, and training for self-reliance—incense sticks, camphor tikki making, etc., safe housing, and 24×7 monitoring.

Nayi Disha Abhiyan, a de-addiction initiative—the district administration is conducting village-to-village awareness activities to protect youth, children, and families from the ill effects of drug addiction. Master volunteers are organizing awareness programs in every Gram Panchayat. 42 camps and 34 workshops were held in various colleges across the district, with 24,107 students participating. Through the campaign, mental health and de-addiction services were provided to 12,150 people. 1,400 members from 140 groups of Bharat Mata Vahini are actively contributing to the campaign, continuously raising awareness through wall writings and motivational posters in villages.

The de-addiction center operating in the district has brought new light to the lives of many young people. Many young people admitted here, who had been addicted for a long time, are now completely drug-free and are starting a new life. Families sent their sons and relatives to the center for treatment with heavy hearts, and today, these young people have not only recovered from addiction but are also becoming self-reliant through their hard work and dedication.

After treatment and counseling at the center, many young people have given up addiction forever. Remarkably, many of them have found employment opportunities there. Some young people are serving as caretakers at the center, while others have taken on new roles as cooks in the kitchen. Their journey of fighting addiction and moving forward with renewed purpose in life has become an inspiring example for the district.
