Five prisoners from Bhubaneswar Jail admitted to hospital.

Bhubaneswar: Officials stated on Wednesday that five inmates from Bhubaneswar’s Jharpada Jail have been hospitalized after complaining of severe illness following the consumption of medication.
According to jail sources, the inmates’ condition deteriorated on Tuesday night, and there were reports of some of them frothing at the mouth. They were immediately rushed to Capital Hospital, and two of them were subsequently transferred to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar.
Jharpada Jail Superintendent Sarveswar Sahu said, “The condition of the inmates—including some undertrials—suddenly worsened after they took the medication.”
“We immediately shifted the inmates to the hospital; one of them has already been discharged, and the condition of the remaining four is now stable.”
Ruling out the possibility of substance abuse by the inmates, he added, “We have initiated an inquiry into the incident and are examining CCTV footage.”
He further stated, “Senior police officials visited the jail last night, and an investigation is underway. Further details will be available only after the probe is concluded.”
Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena visited the inmates at the hospital last night to ensure their safety.
He told reporters, “Some were drowsy, while others were unconscious. The exact cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained.”
