1,025 kg ganja worth Rs 10 crore seized in Boudh, Odisha

Berhampur: Boudh police on Friday stopped a truck carrying a huge consignment of ganja and seized 10.25 quintals of ganja worth around Rs 10 crore.

According to Boudh SP Raj Prasad, the police received information regarding transportation of ganja and they were deployed at Mahanadi Bridge Chowk in Boudh city. When a truck going from Sonpur to Maharashtra, which was allegedly loaded with cashew nuts, was stopped, the police found a hidden compartment under the sacks of cashew nuts, which contained multi-coloured sacks.

On closer inspection, they recovered around 1,025 kg of banned ganja hidden within the gunny bags. SP said that the estimated value of the seized ganja is Rs 10.02 crore.
The truck with Maharashtra registration number was taken to Boudh Adarsh police station and the driver, Sarfaraz Khan (38) and assistant Milan Yadav (41), both residents of Pardi, Maharashtra, were arrested.
Apart from the recovery of ganja, the police have also seized Rs 18,000 in cash and two mobile phones from the possession of the driver and the helper. The SP said that both Khan and Yadav have been taken on remand in the court and further investigation into the case is underway.
