Shoddy Repairs at Singareni Mandal Office, Contractors Running Loose

Karepalli, April 20: The repairs of the Mandal Education Resources Office building in Singareni (Karepalli) mandal center of Khammam district are a testament to the shoddy work. Allegations are being made that the contractors are doing the work as they please due to the lack of supervision by the engineering officers of the Panchayat Raj department. The repair work of the MEO office was done six months ago with the general funds of the Mandal Praja Parishad Rs. 4.50 lakh. As all the work undertaken was completely shoddy, it became clear within six months how poorly the work was done. In addition to not building a toilet and not fixing the windows properly, if the contractor undertook shoddy work, many are expressing anger that the Panchayat Raj engineering officers are monitoring it like a mantra and are also helping to loot public money.

After the Panchayat Raj Engineering Officers supervise, the Deputy Executive Engineering Officers should inspect the quality of the work and check whether the work is done properly or not and pay the bills. There are criticisms that since no officers are seen at the place where the work is being done, the contractor is doing shoddy work as per his whim. Many allege that the officers, who are accustomed to the routines given by the contractors, are saying “no” to the work, no matter how it is done, there is a shortage of people who care even though the buildings are being destroyed before our eyes.
