Shakeela’s plea in Madurai Central seat case dismissed, HC directs her to approach Income Tax

Tamil Nadu: A case has surfaced in the Madurai Central Assembly constituency, alleging concealment of information related to assets and companies in the election nomination. A petitioner named Shakeela filed a petition in the Madras High Court.

The petition alleged that director Sundar C, who is contesting the election on behalf of the New Justice Party, an AIADMK alliance partner, did not disclose information about certain companies in his nomination papers. These include Avni Telemedia, Avni Movies, and Avni Cinemas. The petition claimed that he is a director and shareholder of these companies and has received revenues worth crores of rupees from them, but did not disclose these details in the nomination.

The petitioner also requested that the Income Tax Department investigate the matter to investigate financial transactions and property information.

The case was heard on Monday before a division bench comprising Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arulmurugan. Arguments from both sides were heard during the hearing.

The court dismissed the petition after considering the matter. In its order, the court stated that the petitioner can directly approach the relevant department, the Income Tax Department, with such complaints. The court clarified that judicial intervention is not necessary in the current situation.

With this decision, the matter has been resolved at the court level, and now, if the petitioner wishes, he can file his complaint with the Income Tax Department.

This matter arose amid the election campaign, where demands for scrutiny and transparency regarding the assets and financial information of candidates from various parties are growing. However, the court’s decision has made it clear that further action in this matter will now be possible only at the administrative level.
