Wife murdered due to suspicion of character, tried to destroy evidence by burning the body, accused arrested

Raigarh. TI Kapu Narayan Singh Markam received information about an unidentified body found burnt in a field in village Kamrai of Kapu police station area on 21 February. Police investigation revealed that the body was of Jayamati Vishwakarma alias Devmati Lohar (age around 45 years), whom her husband Amrit Kerketta killed by beating her with fists and sticks due to suspicion of her character and took the body to his field and burnt it with four companions from the village. Kapu police has arrested accused Amrit Kerketta and is searching for four accused who helped in burning the body.

Chain Singh Rathia (23) of the village informed the police about the incident and told that while going for defecation on the morning of 20 February, he saw a burnt body in the field between the paravat. Some parts of the body were not completely burnt, due to which it was assumed that this body could be of a woman. Meanwhile, Amrit Kerketta of the village was searching for his wife, which further deepened the suspicion. The police registered a case, got the post-mortem done and started the investigation.

During interrogation, the accused Amrit Kerketta (65) admitted that he killed his second wife Devmati by beating her with hands, fists and sticks after a dispute on the night of February 20. After the incident, he took the body to the field and burnt it by putting six-seven tractor paravats so that the evidence is destroyed. The police have seized the stick used in the murder on the memorandum of the accused.

A case has been registered against the accused in Kapu police station under sections 103, 238 of the Indian Penal Code in crime number 42/2025. Section 3(5) BNS has been added on the involvement of four other accused. Accused Amrit cricketer has been presented on remand by the police and sent to jail, the search for the absconding accused is on. Under the direction of Superintendent of Police Divyaang Patel, Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Markam and SDOP Dharamjaigarh Siddhant Tiwari, police station in-charge Kapu Inspector Narayan Singh Markam and his team revealed the case.
