Vigilance raid in Odisha, JE and GRS in Ganjam under scanner

Ganjam: Today a short while ago two government employees of Ganjam district in Odisha have been apprehended by the Odisha vigilance.

The employees have been identified as Jagadish Kumar Sahu, Junior Engineer (JE), Purusottampur Block in Ganjam district along with Surjya Narayan Swain, Odisha Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) Jaganathpur, Purusottampur Block of Ganjam district have been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance.

They were caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe Rs. 10,000/- from a Complainant (Contractor) for facilitating the release of pending bills in connection with the work executed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREG) scheme.

Jagadish Sahu was nabbed by the vigilance team today when he accepted the bribe money from the complainant and handed over the same to Surjya Narayan Swain, GRS for counting inside the Block premises.

The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of Surjya Narayan Swain, GRS and seized. Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations of Sahu from Disproportionate Assets (DA) angle.

In this connection, Berhampur Vigilance PS Case has been registered against both the accused persons Sahu, JE and Sri Swain, GRS. Investigation is in progress against both Sahu and Swain. Detailed report is awaited.
