New Delhi: Many state governments have announced state mourning on the demise of former Prime Minister and eminent economist Dr. Manmohan Singh. The governments of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab have also announced seven days of state mourning.
During this time the national flag will fly at half-mast and no entertainment program will be organized by the state government. Apart from this, the Chief Ministers of some states also canceled their scheduled programs, including Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini.
While Chief Minister Nitish Kumar postponed his Pragati Yatra, on the other hand, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini canceled all his scheduled programs. CM Saini was to go to Mahendragarh and Hisar. Earlier, the central government had declared seven days of national mourning across the country on the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Let us tell you that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh died on Thursday at the age of 92 in AIIMS. He was admitted to the hospital on Thursday evening after his health deteriorated.
AIIMS said in an official statement that he was admitted to the medical emergency of AIIMS at 8.06 pm on Thursday. Earlier, he was undergoing treatment for age-related diseases and he suddenly fainted at home. He breathed his last at 9.51 pm on Thursday. Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister twice from 2004 to 2014. He was counted among the great economists of the country.
Manmohan Singh was also the leader of the opposition from 1998 to 2004. However, after the victory of the Congress Party in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, he took oath as the 14th Prime Minister of the country. He held the post of Prime Minister in UPA-1 and 2. He took oath as Prime Minister for the first time on 22 May 2004 and for the second time on 22 May 2009.
