In January, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) issued a Rs 688 crore tender for “additional works to ensure road safety on Bengaluru-Mysuru Controlled Access Expressway”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the highway on March 12, 2023, just before the Karnataka assembly elections. The lack of safety measures and the rise in fatal accidents has led to the anger of travellers on the highway. Some parts of the highway are flooded. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inspected the expressway in July 2023 and said that the road was hurriedly opened to traffic without completing all the works, including road safety measures. The state government had written to the NHAI to resolve the issues on the expressway.
