UP News: CCTV cameras now mandatory in school vans

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has made CCTV cameras mandatory in all school vans in the state to guarantee the safety of students. A notification issued by state transport principal secretary L Venkateshwarlu said this provision will come into force three months after the date of publication of the notification in the Gazette. A top transport official said this provision exists in the motorized vehicles rules of Uttar Pradesh and CCTV cameras have also been installed in some school buses. According to officials, these cameras will be installed in all public transport vehicles once the proposed centralized vehicle location tracking center is ready to operate. The Transport Department has contracted a private agency for the implementation of Vehicle Location Tracking System (VLTS) in the state. The agency is mandated to implement, integrate, test and put into operation a vehicle tracking platform to track and monitor vehicles in the framework of Nirbhaya.
