Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday issued a stern warning against what he described as a growing tendency among certain sections to accumulate wealth through illegal and unethical means, asserting that such practices would not be allowed to continue unchecked.
Addressing a gathering organised by the South Tripura Bus Owners Association, Saha expressed concern over a “competitive spirit” to amass wealth through unfair means and said the government was committed to acting firmly against those involved.
“We have a resolve to build a new Tripura. The days of violence and conflict are behind us. What must now be addressed is the competitive spirit among some people to accumulate wealth through unfair and unscrupulous means. We will not allow this to continue unabated,” he said.
Though he did not name any individual or group, the Chief Minister indicated that the government was aware of those allegedly engaged in such activities and would initiate appropriate action. “It may take time, but we will not let them go scot-free,” he said.
The remarks are being seen as a signal of a possible crackdown on elements suspected of operating illegal rackets in the state.
The event marked the 35th foundation year of the association. Saha felicitated senior bus service owners and unveiled a statue of Syama Prasad Mookerjee. The programme was attended by association president Kamal Deb and other members.
Highlighting the government’s focus on infrastructure development, the Chief Minister said Tripura had witnessed significant progress in recent years. He noted that the proposed ring road project was nearing completion and would benefit the transport sector, particularly bus operators.
He also said a shopping mall was being developed in line with the Prime Minister’s vision for modern infrastructure. A 16-storey building under construction at Gorkhabasti is being built with advanced earthquake-resilient technology, he added. A five-star hotel project is also underway as part of efforts to boost the State’s development profile.
According to the Chief Minister, projects worth approximately Rs 1,500 crore have either been inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid over the past year, underscoring the government’s thrust on infrastructure expansion and economic growth.
