There will be no power cuts in Tamil Nadu: Minister Shivshankar assures

Tamil Nadu : Electricity Minister S.C. Sivasan said that since the demand for electricity in Tamil Nadu this summer is less than last year, the demand for electricity can be easily met in the coming days. He said there will be no power cuts. Minister S.C. Sivasan on Saturday inspected the activities of the 24-hour electricity consumer service centre operating at the electricity board headquarters at Anna Salai in Chennai. He later told reporters: The 24-hour electricity consumer service centre earlier had 65 staff, but now the number of staff has been increased to 94 to address all customer complaints. On an average, 3,500 people call the centre daily to get their complaints resolved. Studies are being conducted to provide various additional services at this centre. Uninterrupted power: Efforts are being made to ensure uninterrupted and consistent power supply to customers across Tamil Nadu. Recently, strong winds and heavy rains in Tirunelveli caused electricity poles to fall at some places, disrupting power supply. As a result, the body of the deceased had to wait for 2 hours at the Tirunelveli Corporation crematorium for cremation. When this was reported in the media, the damaged electricity poles were immediately repaired as per the orders of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the body of the deceased was cremated. Similarly, low voltage problems are being faced at some places. Efforts are being made there, including replacing old electricity transformers and restoring power supply at substations.
Less power demand: As Tamil Nadu is currently receiving sporadic rainfall, the impact of heat has been reduced. Due to this, the power demand during summer this year is less than last year. Also, the right time to generate power through wind turbines has started now. Therefore, the summer power demand this year can be met easily and there will be no power cuts,” he said.
During the inspection, Electricity Board Chairman J. Radhakrishnan, Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Managing Director Alfie John Vaghes and several others attended.
