Janjgir-Champa. The ban imposed on sand ghats for four months will be lifted from today. This will relieve the shortage of sand to some extent. However, even during the four-month ban, sand mafias continued to excavate and transport sand. Excavation continues day and night from the sand ghats of Hasdeo, Mahanadi and other tributary rivers.
Only five sand ghats are currently operational in the records of the Mineral Department in the district. While the process of starting eight more sand ghats has been completed. At the same time, large-scale excavation and transportation is also being done from the nine sand ghats of the district which have been closed for two years. In such a situation, efforts will be made to restart those sand ghats as well, because these are the big sand ghats of the district.
The contract of sand ghats of Pithampur, Hathnewara, Shivrinarayan, Tanoud, Devarghata, Basantpur, Kikirda, Balouda area of the district has expired two years ago. At present, only five sand ghats including Ghuthia, Lachhanpur, Barbaspur, Champa and Navagaon are legal. Whereas sand mafias have been carrying out illegal excavation and transportation from closed sand ghats for the last two years.
