Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: Former Finance Minister and Thiruchuzhi Assembly constituency MLA Thangam Thennarasu has stressed that as per the election promise, crop loans taken by farmers from cooperative banks should be completely waived off. He recently expressed his concern over this matter and raised questions on the administration whether the delay or partial action in fulfilling the election promises has been deliberate.
Thangam Thennarasu posted on his He raised the question whether this is administrative incompetence or farmers have been deliberately cheated.
The former minister said that political parties often promise crop loan waiver for farmers during elections. But when the government tries to fulfill that promise, then RBI guidelines and rules are presented as a hindrance. He says that this creates dissatisfaction and lack of trust among the farmers.
However, the Finance Minister recently said that crop loans taken by farmers from cooperative banks have been waived off. He also clarified that this action was taken as per the guidelines of RBI and there was no violation of any rules in it. The Finance Minister also said that the government is fully committed to providing financial relief to the farmers and the process of crop loan waiver was completed in a transparent manner.
Experts say that political and administrative viewpoints may differ on the issue of crop loan waiver for farmers. While the administration claims that all rules were followed, questions raised by the opposition and former leaders show that there is still doubt and dissatisfaction among farmers regarding the process.
Thangam Thennarasu also said on the occasion that loan waiver alone is not enough to improve the economic condition of farmers and provide them relief. They should also be provided other facilities like agricultural investment, crop insurance and technical help. He urged the government to give priority to the interest of farmers in any future decision and ensure transparency in all processes.
Political analysts believe that this issue can play an important role in the politics of the state in the coming times. The gap between election promises and their fulfillment can affect public confidence. In such a situation, it will be a challenge for both the government and the administration to reassure the farmers and ensure that their interests are protected.
Meanwhile, farmers and farmer organizations have also given their reaction on this matter. Most farmers appreciated the process of crop loan waiver, but some said they were not given complete clarity as to what portion of crop loan was not waived off due to rules.
