Tamil Nadu: Indra Utsav begins with flag hoisting in Ruvenkata

Tamil Nadu: The Indra Utsav (festival) began with the flag hoisting ceremony at the Swetharanyeswarar Temple, including the Brahma Vidyambika, in Thiruvenkadu on Saturday night.
The famous Brahma Vidyambika (festival) and the Swetharanyeswarar Temple are located in Thiruvenkata, Mayiladuthurai district.
In this temple, Shiva is depicted as Agora Murti, one of the five faces of Shiva.
It is also considered the place of propitiation for Mercury, one of the nine planets. It is the only temple in the world with three ponds. The Indra Utsav at this temple, which has many special features, began with the flag hoisting ceremony on Saturday night.
On this occasion, the temple flag, Ganesha, and Nandi were anointed. Later, while chanting Vedic mantras, priest Rajappa Shivacharya hoisted the flag depicting Nandi, marking the beginning of the festival. Following this, a parade was held on the Panchamurthi Street. A large number of devotees, including Board of Trustees Chairman Ravi and Administrative Officer Murugan, participated in it.
