Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister MK Stalin launches Enadhu Gramam
CHENNAI: Chief minister MK Stalin on Friday launched the Enadhu Gramam (My Village) scheme, which will facilitate non-resident Tamils (NRTs) to improve the infrastructure of their native villages in TN and meet their essential needs like education and medical treatment. Does it. This scheme will be done through the contribution of NRT. The scheme was launched on the Tamil Diaspora Day celebrations.
Activities that can be undertaken by NRTs in their home towns include improving the infrastructure of primary health centres, hospitals etc; Construction and improvement of Anganwadis, school and college laboratories, additional classroom buildings, canteens, perimeter walls, playgrounds and libraries; Construction and improvement of facilities like roads, bridges etc. in rural areas; Provision of drinking water facilities, rain water harvesting tanks, reservoir tanks, drinking water pipe facilities, repair and maintenance of ponds etc.
On the occasion, non-resident Tamils Veera Venugopal and Shiva Moopanar ($30,000), Syed Mohammed Salahuddin (25 lakh), Pakkirasamy Rajamanickam from the US (25 lakh) handed over checks to Stalin for improving infrastructure in their villages.
Stalin presented Kaniyan Poongundranar Awards to 13 NRTs: Sudhakar Pichai (Science and Technology) from UK; Vaidheki Herbert (Tamil literature) from America; Jairam Lingama Naicker (Medical) from Singapore; Bala Swaminathan (Education) from America; Murugesu Paramanathan (Education) from Australia; YV Tattosri M Saravanan (social empowerment) from Malaysia; Chitra Mahesh from America (Women Empowerment); Pakkirasamy Rajamanickam (Commerce) from the US; Syed Mohammad Salahuddin (Commerce) from Malaysia; Jaseela Bhanu (Women Empowerment) from UAE; Raman Gurusamy (sports) from South Korea; TK Saranya Devi (Sports) from Kuwait; and Subramaniam Thinappan (Tamil literature) from Singapore.
A total of 57 non-resident Tamil students shared their experiences during ‘Reaching Your Roots’, a two-week cultural tour program organized by the Government of Tamil Nadu for Tamil diaspora youth.
CM dismisses rumors about his health
Chennai: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday dismissed rumors about his health and said everything is fine with his health. Addressing the Tamil Diaspora Day celebrations in Chennai, Stalin said, “I saw a report in a newspaper that my health is not good and hence I am not happy. I just laughed it off. Seeing the people of Tamil Nadu happy is the best tonic for me. I will be with people in every situation and will work for them beyond my physical capacity.”
