Suspect arrested in deadly Sarsam hit-and-run case

In connection with the hit-and-run incident in Sarsam in which a 44-year-old pedestrian lost his life, the Colwell police have arrested a 28-year-old man from Jharkhand. The accused allegedly hit the victim near Sarsaim Panchayat. Police have seized the vehicle involved in the crime.

Colwell police conducted a panchnama at the spot, where they found glass fragments. Subsequently, he registered an offense under sections 279 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as section 134 (A) (B) of the Motor Vehicles Act.

During the investigation, Colwell police formed a team led by PI Vijay Tane, who analyzed CCTV footage and gathered intelligence, leading them to the conclusion that a four-wheeler was involved in the crime. Subsequently, upon tracing the vehicle, they identified the driver as Abhishek Verma, resident of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

Investigation revealed that the accused also attempted to tamper with evidence, which led the police to file additional charges against him under section 201 of the IPC. Police said the accused took the vehicle to Margao, where he gave it to the owner and provided payment for repairs. He then proceeded to buy another car and left for a resort in Asanora.
