Punjab: A special plan is being considered to make darshan (pilgrimage) more accessible at Varanasi, one of the country’s major religious sites. Given the ever-increasing number of pilgrims, the administration and related departments have intensified their efforts to implement new arrangements. According to reports, the proposed plan focuses on streamlining the darshan system. Crowd management, queue systems, and security measures are being strengthened, particularly for pilgrims visiting the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Furthermore, facilities like online registration and slot booking are being considered to be expanded, providing relief to pilgrims from long queues.
According to administrative sources, the plan also discusses coordinating special train and bus services for pilgrims arriving from various states. For the convenience of pilgrims, plans include improving accommodation, drinking water, health services, and guidance centers. Additionally, there are proposals to further strengthen cleanliness, security, and lighting at the Ganga River ghats. Special management systems could be implemented to control crowds and improve the experience of devotees during the Ganga Aarti. Religious and tourism experts believe that such plans will not only provide convenience to devotees but also boost religious tourism in the city.
Varanasi is recognized globally as a major spiritual center, and improved arrangements will further enrich the experience of both domestic and foreign tourists. However, some experts have also suggested that the needs of local people and the traditional structure of the city should be taken into account when implementing the plan. A long-term strategy will be necessary to control excessive crowds and traffic congestion. Currently, discussions are underway regarding this special plan, and suggestions are being sought from relevant departments. The plan is expected to be finalized and implemented in the near future. If implemented successfully, the darshan system in Varanasi will become even better and more convenient.
