Special drive against illegal arms in Ganjam: 20 more criminals with 8 guns and 31 live bullets arrested

Berhampur: The special drive against illegal arms in Ganjam district continues as the district police has arrested 20 more criminals with 8 guns and 31 live bullets on Tuesday.

While addressing the media persons in Chhatrapur in the presence of Superintendent of Police (SP) Subhendu Patra today, Southern Range IG Niti Shekhar informed that the special drive under the leadership of the SP to make Ganjam district free from illegal arms and guns continues.

“In the first phase of the drive, the district police had arrested 18 persons from 6 police stations. They had seized 17 guns, 16 mobile phones, 66 bullets and 4 firearm cartridges from them. Today, we have seized 8 guns and 31 live bullets and a total of 20 criminals have been arrested. In this regard, four cases were registered at Kotinada, Aska, Hinjli and Polsara police stations,” the Southern Range IG said.

“The criminals who were arrested by the Kotinada police have been identified as Rama Gouda with 4 pending cases, Pintu Gouda with 9 pending cases, Raju Jena, who is a wanted in an NDPS case filed in Surat, Santosh Behera with 13 pending cases, Ghanesh Nahaka with one pending case, Pintu Behera, Ramesh Maharana with 2 pending cases, Pratap Jena with 3 pending cases,” he added.

“In Aska police station, one gun and two vehicles were seized and five people were arrested. They arrested persons are Ghanasyama Behera, with 7 pending cases, Deepak Prusti, Ajit Palei with 3 pending cases, Tukuna Barik with1 pending case, and Siba Prasad Das with pending cases,” he mentioned.

Niti Shekhar further said, “Two guns were seized and five were arrested from Hinjli Police Station area. They are Chintu Das with 7 pending cases, Raja Gauda with 2 pending cases, Hina Samal with 6 pending cases, Rakesh Mohapatra with 1 pending case, Govind Bebera with 1 pending case.”

“In Polsara police station area, one gun was seized while two persons have been arrested. The accused have been identified as Krushna Chandra Behera with 4 pending cases and Raja Sethi with 1 pending case,” the IG said.

“With today’s development, a total of 38 persons have been arrested so far and 25 illegal guns and 97 bullets have been seized. The special drive will continue and we are hopeful of seizing more number of illegal firearms and arrest the accused persons,” he added.
