Solan Controversy escalates over voter list in Baddi elections

The BJP and Congress have clashed over allegations of unauthorized voter additions to the voter list ahead of the municipal corporation elections in Baddi.

The opposition BJP has accused the state government and local administration of registering outsiders under political pressure to benefit the local MLA.

Former BJP MLA Paramjit Singh Pammi has demanded the cancellation of the alleged unauthorized votes.

He said that the Congress suffered a clear defeat in the Panchayat Raj elections, with its supported candidates losing two of the three Zila Parishad seats in Doon as well as the Block Development Committee elections. Following this, the party is now attempting to add unauthorized voters to every ward to gain undue advantage in the upcoming municipal corporation elections.

Responding to the allegations, Congress leader and former Municipal Council President Madan Lal Chaudhary expressed confidence in the administration’s functioning and dismissed the BJP’s allegations as baseless.

Former MLA Paramjit Singh further alleged that voters from other states, already registered in their native states, are being added to the voter list. He claimed that the administration and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are preparing the voter list under pressure from current MLA Ramkumar.

He warned that if the administration does not take immediate action, BJP workers will take to the streets, go on hunger strikes, and even approach the High Court for justice. He demanded a fair investigation and the immediate cancellation of alleged fake votes.

Baddi SDM Sanjeev Kumar stated that during the special revision of the voter list, all claims and objections received by June 27th had already been resolved by the Revising Authority.

He said that the appeal period is now only until July 2nd. If anyone has any objections or complaints regarding any name, they can file an appeal through the established process, and the final decision will rest with the State Election Commission.
