SIT finds 13 thousand illegal madrassas on UP-Nepal border

Lucknow: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has identified more than 13 thousand unauthorized madrassas across the state. Most of the unauthorized madrassas are located on the UP-Nepal border. Apart from this, some madrassas are also located in Maharajganj, Srivasti and Bahraiz districts. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) asked all these madrassas to provide information about their financial position, but the operators of most of these madrassas could not provide this information. This is deepening suspicion about their illegal activities. According to police sources, the operators of madrassas have claimed that most of the madrassas were built with donations, but they are not able to provide information about the source of their donations. The investigation of a total of 23,000 madrassas has identified 5,000 provisionally recognized madrassas and some failing to meet the accreditation standards. Recently, the police had claimed that 80 madrassas located in the border area have received funds worth Rs 100 crore from abroad, which is being investigated.
