Ensure proper compensation to Karivetti villagers: Ramadoss tells NLC

Chennai: PMK founder S Ramadoss has warned the state government that he will stage protests if the NLC fails to ensure proper compensation to residents of Karivetti village whose land was acquired for the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC). He also alleged that people associated with the DMK have been given excessive compensation. In a statement, the senior leader said the NLC has provided compensation to two people from the same family by distributing plots and money to build houses. “But, generosity has not been shown to the common people. A person who got married in 2019 has been given compensation, and a family has received compensation despite the husband’s name not being in the voter list of Karivetti village,” he listed.

He also pointed out that there have been violations in giving jobs to the villagers. DMK family members have been given easy jobs and other families have been given hard jobs. Urging equitable and fair compensation for the families who depend on the village for their livelihood, Ramadoss warned of a strong protest if the NLC refuses to meet the residents’ demands. “To compensate, the values of houses and properties of the DMK and DMK functionaries have been increased. On the other hand, the values of properties owned by others have been decreased,” he alleged.
