Shimla: Shimla Municipal Corporation will increase its water storage capacity to 26 million liters per day (MLD) to overcome the problem of water shortage in the city. The Municipal Corporation is renovating the 143-year-old tank at Seg, which has a storage capacity of 9 MLD. Apart from this, the Municipal Corporation is constructing a water storage tank with a capacity of 7 MLD near Hotel Peter Hof. A new water tank with a capacity of 10 MLD has been constructed at Dhali at a cost of Rs 7.50 crore. The British-era water tank at Seg used to supply water to the city when it used to be the summer capital of Himachal Pradesh. The construction of the water storage tank at Hotel Peter Hof is expected to be completed in July. After this, water will be supplied to the city from it. Shimla Mayor Surendra Chauhan said that efforts are being made to increase the water storage capacity in the city to end the water crisis. He said that the Municipal Corporation has planned to start storing water in these tanks during the monsoon season. Chouhan said he along with officials visited the water tank near Hotel Peter Hof on Wednesday and inspected the construction work. The mayor said he also visited the water tank at Dhali on Monday.

A new water tank with a capacity of 10 MLD has been constructed at Dhali at a cost of Rs 7.50 crore. The construction of the water tank at Hotel Peter Hof is expected to be completed in July. After this, water will be supplied to the city from it. When Siyog used to be the summer capital of the state, the city used to get water supply from the British-era tank.
