Chennai: The decision regarding seat sharing between Congress and DMK for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections will be taken by Sunday. Although this decision could have been taken much earlier, it got delayed due to DMK’s stance. According to Congress party sources, DMK has agreed on 9 seats, but there is still a possibility of change on three seats. However, when DMK leaders were questioned about this, they maintained silence. There will be a meeting of senior leaders of DMK and Congress in the party office. In this meeting Anna Arivalayam, DMK’s T.R. Balu and S. Duraimurugan will represent the ruling party, while Selvaperunthagai will lead the Congress delegation.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President K. Speaking to IANS, Selvaperunthagai said, “We want to get all the nine seats on which we had contested the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, including one seat in Puducherry.” Meanwhile, DMK senior general secretary and Tamil Nadu Water Works Minister S. Speaking to IANS, Duraimurugan said, “DMK President and Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru MK Stalin will take the final decision on seat sharing on Sunday. We are working hard to take the election campaign forward.”
According to DMK sources, Stalin wants to take a final decision regarding seat sharing with Congress as soon as possible, so that a decision can be taken on seat sharing with other parties also. It is noteworthy that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance had contested 38 out of 39 seats. The only seat the front lost was Theni, where senior Congress leader E.V.K.S. Elangovan AIADMK’s O.P. Had lost to Ravindranathan.
