Sambalpur Sitalsasthi: Lord Mahadev’s Barat Procession Today Night

Sambalpur: The famous and massive Sitalsasthi festival is underway in Sambalpur of Odisha. Today night the barat procession of Lord Mahadev will set out for the bride’s house.

The city of Sambalpur has turned the center of celebration for the ongoing Sitalsasthi festival. Today towards mid-night, the barat procession of Lord Mahadev, the bridegroom, will leave for the place of Mother Parvati. As per the ritual a couple becomes the father and mother of Goddess Parvati during Sitalsasthi to perform the rituals and customs for the wedding of their daughter. The barat moves for the house of this couple where the divine wedding takes place as per the rituals.

For Sitalsasthi many cultural troupes from various states have already reached Sambalpur to participate in the event.

One of the attractions of Sital sasthi is the transgenders’ ramp show. The transgender people are seen wearing beautiful sarees, beautiful dress etc. that has captivated the audience.

A fashion show is underway today at the transgender people’s fashion show organised at the Gangadhar Mandap by Sambalpur Daleipada Gupteswar Baba’s Yatra Committee.

Sambalpur City in the western part of Odisha celebrates the historic Sital Sasthi festival with enthusiasm and religious fervor marking the divine marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, as depicted in the Shiva Purana.

A conglomeration of thousands of artistes is witnessed at this five-day-long cultural extravaganza.
